-====== Miranda ======+====== Heavy Gear ======

-Miranda is game world that started at [[http://www.purdue.edu/|Purdue University]] in January 1991 and ran continuously for two years when I took a hiatus after moving to [[wp>Cincinnati]]. Eventually restarted the world with a new gaming group and ran continuously until 1998 when I began to interleave my fantasy stories with other gamesHoweverI kept this game world alive because of the fantastic stories that have taken place here.+This was very short-lived multi-arc storyline using [[wiki>Dream Pod 9]]s [[wp>Heavy Gear]] System. have always had a love for mecha that harkens back to [[wp>Macross]] (i.eRobotech), [[wp>Gundam]]and [[wp>Armored Trooper Votoms]]. So, when the Heavy Gear system appeared loved the look and layout of the book - even though each nation on Terra Nova was really pocketted and genericIt felt a bit too much like [[wp>The Belgariad]] where you had the nation of knightsspies, and so on. But the idea of straping on military mecha and win over a lawless area (the Badlands) was too much to turn down.

-I originally ran the game under [[http://herogames.com|HERO 4th Edition]] from 1991 until 1998At that time I wanted to run more of a low fantasy game so dabbled in HARNFuzion, and even my heavily modified version of Chivalry and Sorcery - in the end none of these satisfied me and so in 2011 decided to move in a different direction and include more story-telling system called FATEI am currently using a slightly modified version of Legends of Anglerre and am very happy with the outcome so far.+Unfortuately for me, my first campaign ended in such a disaster that the group split apart after the final game. Still, I have never been one to learn from my mistakes until left with no other choice - so I resurrected the game with a new direction - which promptly burned down and then fell into the swampSo, this time I have learned and hopefully will let rabid dogs lie.
 +
 +did learn one thingwhile I like much of the background and the company does really nice layouts and support (except for the crappy original [[wp>Heavy_Gear#Miniatures|miniatures]]); did not like the RPG system. It was fast and easy (if bit wonky) for the skirmish combat system, but it had serious flaws as an RPG system. The dice system less than enjoyable and the difference between a +1 (sttribute) and +1 die (skill) made any skill beyond 3 levels foolish to purchase.
 +
 +I really wish I could make this work, but it is simply not to be for now.
